Exercise 2

a) Take a Word document that contains at least one table and various formatting styles, such as headings and font formats (e.g., bold, italic, different font sizes and types), and convert it into the following formats: .rtf, .htm, .odt, .pdf, and .txt.

Open the converted files and review them. Were the formatting styles preserved in all converted file formats? In which files did you notice formatting losses?

The formatting information remained fully intact in all converted files except for the .txt file. The .txt file contains completely unformatted text, and the table information was not preserved.

b) What file formats do you work with? Are these proprietary or open standards? Into which formats could you convert your data to meet archiving requirements?
