+ Easy to transport
+ Can be stored in a locked cabinet or safe
+ Data storage and transfer possible without an internet connection
– Risk of loss or theft
– Depending on material, can be shock- and wear-sensitive
Institutional storage locations (university server)
+ Regular data backup
+ Professional administration and maintenance
+ Institutional data protection regulations are considered
– Dependent on an internet connection
– Access is usually lost after leaving the institution

+ Easy to use and manage
+ Automatic backups
+ Supports mobile and collaborative work
+ Professionally managed and maintained
– Data protection is not always guaranteed
– Dependent on an internet connection
