Exercise 4
Part 1)
Reflektion:
How do you store your personal and research data at home, at your research institution, and while traveling for research purposes? What storage media do you use for this? How often do you create backups? (All data or only part of it?) Where are these backups stored?
Part 2)
How can you optimize your storage routines? Adjust as needed and document your storage concept.
Helpful questions for consideration:
- What exactly should be backed up? (Data types → personal/research; different formats?)
- How often should data be saved? Are there differences depending on the data type?
- Which systems should be used for storage?
- What data should have a backup? (All files, or only a selection?)
- How frequently should backups be made?
- What is the primary system for original files, and which systems are used for backups?
- Is quick access to files important?
Test your concept:
- What would happen if your laptop was stolen or damaged?
- Would you still have access to lost data (backups, recovery, etc.)?
- Is access to and storage of important data secure even while traveling, with or without an internet connection?
